Near Georgia and Florida border is a neat little island, Amelia. It is the southernmost barrier island on the Atlantic coast.
It’s about 45 minutes north of the Jacksonville Beach and about 30 – mins from Jacksonville airport.
The island is quiet and beaches are not very crowded and easy to find solitude along often empty beaches. Fernandina beach is probably the most crowded on the island.
Mile away from the beach is a cute little town with boutiques and restaurants. We had some really nice mexican-vegetarian food at Pablo’s Mexican grill and frozen yogurt. The street is full of antique and art stores for a really nice window shopping ( in my case).
A neat little island for a weekend getaway without breaking your budget !!
Activities to consider:
– A really good spot for surfing at a budget price.
