La Fortuna / Arenal, Costa Rica

Day 1: Flew into San Jose in the evening. And stayed at hostel that i had pre-booked near downtown. Since we got there on Sunday evening the entire city was pretty much dead.

We managed to find a local restaurant near the hostel that served huge portions of food. Fed well, we just headed back to the hostel after realizing the town has winded down for the evening.

We had booked a collectivo through the hostel to pick us up to go to La Fortuna. This can be arranged the night before from most of the hostels/hotels. After picking up people from few different hostels, what seemed like a tour of San Jose, we finally headed to La Fortuna.

The first 4-days of our trip in CR, it was raining and that made the scenery just more beautiful than ever.

Just meant that we couldn’t get a view of Volcano Arenal. But, the rest of the activities were perfect in rain.

Stayed two days in La Fortuna. Day one was hiking arranged by the hostel we stayed at. We arranged for this after reached the hostel, if you like planning everything ahead of time, you can email most of the hostels. This part of CR is extremely travel friendly and they know how to arrange activities. Day two was Rappelling, followed an evening at Baldi hot springs.

There are other adventurous activities in the area such as white water rafting, horse back riding, canopy tour/ziplining, etc.,

We decided that we will move forward to Santa Elena after two days in La Fortuna.
